IHSAA Swimming Advisory
Recommendations for 2009
- A current officer of the IHSSCA be an
exempt, non-voting member of the Swimming
Advisory Committee. If a current
officer is already on the Committee
as a voting member, another officer will be the exempt member.
Rationale: Other associations have officers sit on advisory committees to share the voice of the association and assist in communication between the Advisory Committee and the IHSAA. - Move the first legal competition date
forward form Monday of Week 22, to the Tuesday of Week 21.
Rationale: By moving the competition date to Week 21, it will allow for more flexibility in scheduling meets. - The 24 fastest times in all events,
including ties for 24th fastest time qualify for the state meet.
Rationale: Other sports have opportunity to break ties at respective district meets. Swimming does not have this opportunity. Additionally, it is a rare occurrence to have a tie at the 24th position, thus an additional heat at the state meet would not extend the state meet adversely. Finally, it is difficult to tell any swimmer they do not qualify for the state meet because they are not a senior, or junior, etc.
