2009 State Meet Wrap Up

The 2009 state meet was an exciting one! With one of the closest team scores in a number of years, coming down to the final event, Dubuque Senior won the 400 Free Relay to win their first swimming title with 152 points. Ames was a very close second in the standings with 147 points. Cedar Falls captured third with 133 points. The meet produced 16 automatic All-American times and 22 times fast enough for All-American consideration.

Jordan Huff from Dubuque Senior and Mitch Taylor of Johnston were double winners. Jordan defended his crown in the 200 Free and 100 Free. Mitch took top honors in the 50 Free and 100 Butterfly. Both swimmers were automatic All-Americans in each of their victories. Jordan took State Athlete of the Year honors based on the final criteria of power points. Congratulations Jordan! Congratulations also go to the coaching staff of Dubuque Senior, taking the Staff of the Year honors as well.

The IHSSCA inducted Joe Fisher from Ames and John Lonergan of Bettendorf into the Hall of Fame. Both of these men had outstanding high school careers and continued to keep swimming in their lives. Congratulations!

Our thanks go out to the staff of the Marshalltown YMCA, Mr. Tim Bell—MHS Athletic Director, Linda Leaton—MHS Athletic Secretary, and the many volunteers that helped put on an outstanding state meet.
