2008 Girls’ State Meet Wrap Up

The 2008 Girls’ State Meet was another great meet.  Swimming fans were treated to some great races and an exciting race in the team scoring.

West Des Moines Valley captured its fourth consecutive team title with 316 points.  Cedar Falls took the second place trophy with 201 points, followed by Mason City with 180 and Ames fourth with 178.  Congratulations go to Valley head coach Shawn BeBoef and his staff on being recognized as the Coaching Staff of the Year.  Danielle Harris was named the Athlete of the Year.  The Valley senior broke two state records in winning the 200 IM and the 100 Backstroke.  She was also a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle relays for Valley.

This year’s meet produced seven automatic All-American performances and 19 consideration times.  Along with Danielle Harris’ two wins, Ames senior Stephanie Koch was a double winner as well.  Stephanie won the 200 Freestyle and then came back later in the meet to win the 100 Freestyle.

The 2007 Girls’ State Meet was an exciting one.  There were some great time drops and exciting movement in the seedings.  Congratulations to all the swimmers and their coaches on a season to remember!!!
