The
2006 state meet brought us some outstanding swims and competition.
This year's meet produced 26 automatic All-American times and 14
All-American consideration times. The state had two individuals that
were double winners. Steve Brus of Davenport North won the 200 and
500 Free. Nick Cordes of Cedar Falls won the 50 Free and 100 Back.
These two young men shared the State Athlete of the Year honor; winning
two individual titles and having both victories qualify for automatic
All-American status.
Cedar
Falls defended their team title winning with a total of 257.5 points.
Cedar Rapids Washington was second with 164.5 points, followed by
West Des Moines Valley in third with 128 points. Congratulations
go to Coaches Dana Peiffer of Cedar Falls and Chris Cruise of Cedar
Rapids Washington and their staffs on being named State Coaching
Staff of the Year.
Our
thanks also go to the staff of the Marshalltown YMCA, Mr. Tim Bell – MHS
Athletic Director, and the many volunteers in Marshalltown that helped
to put on an outstanding state meet.
The
IHSSCA would also like to thank Alan Beste. Alan has served tirelessly
for swimming in our state for 15 years. Alan will be turning over
the swimming reins to Todd Tharp next season. Alan has been an outstanding
advocate of swimming for our young men. He has worked tremendously
hard for our sport and done his best for swimming at every turn.
Please take the time to thank Alan and wish him well.
